The Rockford Files: Charles Dexter hires Jim to find his mistress Susan Parsons who has ‘property’ belonging to him. Jim quotes his fee - $200 a day plus expenses, but Dexter refuses to pay that much. They argue, but Dexter needs someone he can trust, so accepts the deal. Dexter gives Jim some information on Susan’s lifestyle and address. Jim meets Susan’s roommate Louise Henderson, a law student, who demands to come along on the case. They go to Las Vegas and find Susan playing at the gambling tables. Jim meets her and chats to her, then contacts Dexter. Jim later breaks into Susan’s room with Louise, find it ransacked, but both a knocked unconscious – strangely by Charles Dexter. Jim accompanies Louise back to room, which of course has been ransacked. She begs Jim’s assistance and they leave Las Vegas. On the journey Jim spots that they are being followed, and pulls over to talk with the driver – a private detective named Kermit Higby. Jim takes Susan to a hotel, but looses sight for her for 30 minutes. Jim admits to her that he is a private investigator and demands to know what property she took. Suddenly Louise bursts in with the police claiming Jim is a molester and he is arrested while the girls race off. The police clear Jim because his client is waiting for him. Jim demands answers from Charles Dexter, who confesses the stolen property is money that was intended for a pay-off. Jim agrees to find it in return for a bonus, so charters a plane and flies ahead of the girls, hires and car and waits for them…
