The film is set twenty years after the invasion, the world is at peace (well, sort of, since there are still pockets where the inhabitants are ferociously independent), and the technology has advanced significantly thanks to all of the space ships that had crashed on the Earth. However, when the mothership was destroyed a signal was sent out into space to alert the queen of a clear and present danger – Earth.
